Ko'olau Mountains
The gardens cover 700 acres and rise from 80 feet above sea level to 2,600 feet at the top of the majestic Ko'olau Mountains. From Lunalilo Heights there is a spectacular panoramic view from the mountains to the sea.
Kaneohe
Bay
At the highest accessible elevation in the Gardens, there is a breathtaking view of Kane'ohe Bay that stretches from Chinaman's Hat to Kane'ohe Marine Corps Base Hawai'i. The two small islands are Kapapa and Mokumanu.
Growing here are plants that have adapted well to the drier
climate of the high elevation. Brightly colored bromeliads line the Garden's Lookout. The
native Pili grass sway in the sweet breeze. Cook pines planted in the early 1900's provide
a nice backdrop to the Gardens lush scenery. Wild orchids can be found dotting the
brush to the sides of the trail. |
